Experience everything that makes Mercedes-Benz special – Experience the A-Class

The A-Class is all about outstanding practicality that goes hand in hand with aesthetic pleasure. Despite the compact exterior imensions, even the rear passengers can relax in plenty of space. The A-Class has a wealth of practical details as part of the standard equipment package on offer: air conditioning, an on-board computer, a multi-function steering wheel, as well as the standard-fit hill-start assist, which makes hill starts much easier by maintaining the brake pressure for a short time and thus preventing the car from rolling backwards unintentionally.

Optional equipment: a panoramic sunroof offering a clear view of the sky and a removable armrest with through-loading feature in the middle of the rear compartment. Plus the optional EASY-VARIO system allows you to simply raise the cushions of the rear seats, fold the backrests forward and move the height-adjustable load-compartment floor into its higher position. The 1: 2 split-folding rear seats are fitted as standard, so you can fold down the right section of the rear-seat unit and still carry a rear passenger on the left. The A-Class is packed with the latest safety technology. For example, the Electronic Stability Program ( ESP) and acceleration skid control (ASR) – help you to remain in better control in dangerous driving situations. Brake Assist (BAS) helps to build up the maximum braking
pressure whilst the familiar anti-lock braking system (ABS) prevents the wheels from locking up. Plus the A-Class now features adaptive brake lights as standard: in the event of an emergency stop when travelling at over 50 km/h, the brake lamps start flashing several times a second to warn any vehicles behind, thus potentially shortening their stopping distance decisively.

Even in an emergency, you can count on the A-Class. Its high level of safety is partly down to its form: in the event of a frontal impact, the engine and transmission slide along the inclined pedal floor and under the passenger compartment. This intelligent form of crumple zone reduces the risk of occupant injury substantially. If there is a rear impact, the front head restraints are activated to help
prevent whiplash injuries. Here the distance between the occupant’s head and the head restraint is shortened in order to reduce whiplash. The aim of Mercedes-Benz is to ensure that you arrive at your destination save and sound. For driving pleasure the A-Class
engines are packed with power. The petrol line-up comprises the A180 (85 kW) and the A200 (100 kW) . There is also a diesel model,
the A180 CDI (80 kW). Despite so much power, all the engines are models of modesty when it comes to fuel consumption. The secret is
reduced friction losses in the engine, a high compression ratio and improved in-cylinder flow. For more information contact your closest

Mercedes-Benz and the family

Variability and high transport capacity: these virtues make many model series from Mercedes-Benz popular family vehicles. The A-Class already shows what's possible in a car less than four metres in length. Lots of space for the holiday trip, and if need be the car transforms into a one-seat small moving van. This section "Mercedes-Benz and the family" is devoted to equipment items and functionalities which usually are not in the limelight. Like the exemplary child restraint device "TopTether". As many as three child seats can be fitted next to each other in the rear of a Mercedes- Benz, in the E, M, R and GL-Class. And a standard-fitted power socket for warming up baby food can be just as important to a family as the latest multimedia equipment.
When carrying children, safety is top priority: with ISOFIX, child seats are connected to the vehicle frame with a click. Another fastening point on the backrest (TopTether) lends added stability and prevents a seat tipping forward. Automatic child seat recognition (optional extra). Automatically deactivates the front passenger airbag when a transponder-equipped child seat from the Mercedes-Benz accessories range is fitted. This is particularly necessary if child seats are installed facing the rear. The triggering of an airbag would be perilous. Children who are not securely seated in the car are in great danger. The risk of being severely injured or killed in an accident is seven times higher than for children in suitable restraint systems. A much heralded invention of Mercedes-Benz are the child seats integrated in the rear seats - first introduced in the C-Class (W 202) in 1994. They are available for A, B, C and E-Class and suitable for children from age two to twelve (maximum 36 kilograms body weight). They fold out of the seat upholstery and raise the seat position so that the belt path is adjusted to the child's special needs. For children weighing up to about 18 kilograms an additional padded play table is required (Mercedes-Benz accessories). In the C and E-Class, a lateral-support headrest can be fitted.
