Mercedes-Benz driving Bafana Bafana

Zwartkop - As a proud sponsor of the Bafana Bafana football team, Mercedes-Benz proudly hands over a brand new Mercedes-Benz Multego luxury coach, on a three year sponsorship, as the new team bus.

The Mercedes-Benz Multego is a luxury coach with a unique interior layout, to accommodate the special needs of the team. The coach seats 40 passengers comfortably with individual lap-belts, and situated in the rear is a U-shaped couch and conference table to accommodate meetings comfortably. The interior is finished in high quality plush cream leather. Further comfort features includes a DVD entertainment system with three TV screens, full air-conditioning, and a portable fridge in the front and rear of the coach. For additional comfort, included are convenience amenities.

“The MULTEGO is ideally suited for long-distance operations in tough conditions and with South Africa’s typography and climatic conditions, such as harsh road conditions, altitude and temperature, these external factors play a major role. We know that the MULTEGO will be a success with the team, as they are continuously on the move across South Africa, to meet their match and training commitments,” says Jan Aichinger, Divisional Manager, Mercedes-Benz Buses.

The development of the bus-body was a joint project between the Mercedes-Benz design centre in Germany and our body-building partner, Marco Polo. The MULTEGO is locally assembled. The bus-chassis comes off the bus line at the Mercedes-Benz plant in East London, and together with a local body-building partnership, the body and interior is manufactured and fitted by Marco Polo.

The coach has been designed to minimise aerodynamic drag using bonded side windows. The anti-corrosion treatment of the body allows for maximum life usage.

The East London plant has recently been upgraded for the local assembly of the 0500 RSD 2436 (360 hp) rear-engine chassis. This chassis is fitted with a Euro 3 rear-engine and in addition, the driver has the comfort of a fully automatic gear-box with retarder. Safety is paramount and the innovative Mercedes-Benz ABS braking system ensures further safety, while the all round air-suspension enhances drive comfort. The high safety levels even extend to two emergency hatches in the roof.

The Mercedes-Benz Multego coach is the first Mercedes-Benz branded coach in South Africa. With the tourism industry booming with international and local tourists, the MULTEGO addresses the specific demands of the travel and tourist industry.
